Celebrating Biking in Minneapolis
Bikeways for Everyone partner group the Sierra Club North Star Chapter holds an annual bike tour every year highlighting the best and worst of bike infrastructure and development in the Twin Cities metro. This year the tour focused on Minneapolis -- shown in this 2-min. video -- with special emphasis on protected bikeways.

It’s an exciting time for protected bike lanes in Minneapolis as the bicycle master plan is being updated to include these facilities and Mayor Hodges has allocated $750,000 for this type of infrastructure. A recent study of five protected bike lanes constructed through the Green Lane Project, gives a preview of benefits we might expect from the soon-to-be constructed Washington Avenue protected bike lane and future projects.

Dr. Harry Hull is a retired Senior Physician for the Health Department. He spoke in support of Bikeways for Everyone at the kick-off event on April 30th, 2014.
He identified two major causes for health issues: Eating too much and not getting enough exercise.
“Bicycling is a solution to not getting enough exercise. The key to getting people on their bicycles is making it safer and making it feel safer,” he said.
